Caring for the planet

Sustainability

As custodians of land that has been in our family for over 120 years, sustainability isn't just a policy; it's a principle woven into everything we do. From the way we farm to the way we furnish our hut, our commitment is to protect and enhance our corner of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Minimise Our Environmental Impact

In today's world, sustainability has emerged as a pivotal concern, capturing the attention and commitment of both businesses and consumers alike. The surge in sustainability awareness has been driven by a combination of factors including climate change awareness, governmental regulations and corporate responsibility.

Even though we are a small business, we recognise our part in sustainability and our impact on the Earth’s resources. By incorporating various practices and principles, we aim to minimise our environmental impact while providing a unique and comfortable lodging experience.

Sustainable Farming Initiatives

As custodians of the land within our farm, protecting our local environment is key and we endeavour to play our small part in protecting our planet as best we can. Many of our hut furnishings are re-loved and upcycled. We do our best to incorporate unused wood from the farm, whether that may be gate posts, trailer sides or telegraph poles, to ensure that waste is minimal and that fewer new materials are needed. We aim to remove the need for single use plastic within our business, instead opting for environmentally sound, refillable products.

We also work hard to enhance local biodiversity within our farm. In September 2023 we took the decision to incorporate Sustainable Farming Initiatives (SFI) onto the farm. We have chosen to trade much of our intensive farming practices for nitrogen fixing crops that put nutrients back into the soil and those which also benefit the local biodiversity, insects and animals. Guests can witness this first hand as the hut is based right next to an SFI field of legumes and clover planted to encourage wildlife. Since the sowing of the legume field, we have seen a steady increase in the number of buzzards and deer in the area.
